Believe Me, JP Delaney: Book Review

Brb, just picking my jaw off the floor. Believe Me by JP Delaney is one that should be on every psychological thriller lover’s list.

The plot:

A British drama student, in New York without a green card, Claire takes the only job she can get: working for a firm of divorce lawyers, posing as an easy pick-up in hotel bars to entrap straying husbands.

Never hit on them directly, she’s told. We’re after evidence, not entrapment. The innocent have nothing to fear. That’s the theory, anyway. But Claire is so good at this, she rarely fails to get her man.

When one of her targets becomes the subject of a murder investigation, the police ask Claire to use her acting skills to help lure their suspect into confession. But right from the start, she has doubts about the part she’s being asked to play.

Is Patrick Fogler really a killer… or the only decent husband she’s ever met? And is there more to this set-up than she’s being told?

And that’s when Claire realises she’s playing the deadliest role of her life…

Will 10/10 make you gasp. I’m willing to make bets.

I read this in one sitting and I’m not even mad that, when I got out of bed to walk around, I had pins and needles and patterns etched into my skin from sitting in one place for too long.

This story really reminds you what the whole ‘psychological thriller’ definition means. If this was the first book in the genre I picked up, I’d be addicted. HECK, I am addicted.

Now, I’ve read The Girl Before, Delaney’s first thriller, and just devoured every second of it. But this – THIS. Believe Me is just on another level. Delaney kept you guessing the whole way through – I knew there was more than one twist when reading it, but even that first twist was entirely unpredictable, and it just kept on getting more and more insane.

Very fast-paced and unputdownable (I have pics of the patterns on my skin to prove it) – Believe Me is a psychological thriller at its finest.

Bookmark That BIGGGGGG stamp of approval. Honestly cannot fathom how Delaney thought of this idea for a book and will 10/10 make you gasp. I’m willing to make bets.
